Rwanda suffered the most horrible tragedy in 1994.
An estimated 1,000,000 Rwandans were brutally murdered, making Rwanda a nation of orphans as a generation of parents were killed. These kids were left to feed themselves and support their other siblings. A 1999 UNICEF study found that 96 percent of Rwandan children had witnessed the 1994 massacres.
80 percent had lost at least one family member. Hundreds of thousands were orphaned by the genocide. Rwanda today faces an immense challenge as these kids are Rwanda’s future.
